Error description

• In DB2 Administration Tool for z/OS, when Tablespace is altered
  leaving the tablespace in REORG PENDING state, optional
  COPY utility fails or if COPY not specified, REORG utility
  fails with RC=08 and message DSNU212I.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Background utility REBUILD for an       *
  *                      index can fail if the table space       *
  *                      containing the table to which the       *
  *                      index is attached is in a restrictive   *
  *                      state. DSNU212I csect-name - REORG      *
  *                      PENDING ON TABLE SPACE                  *
  *                      database.index-name PROHIBITS           *
  *                      PROCESSING error will occur in this     *
  *                      situation. Background utility REORG     *
  *                      for a partitioned table space can       *
  *                      fail if there is an index attached      *
  *                      to the table in that table space in     *
  *                      PSRBD-pending state and the entire      *
  *                      table space is not reorganized.         *
  *                      DSNU204I csect-name - PAGESET           *
  *                      REBUILD PENDING ON obj-type             *
  *                      obj-qual.obj-name PROHIBITS             *
  *                      PROCESSING will occur in                *
  *                      this situation. Background utilities    *
  *                      are run by ADBTEP2 to take objects      *
  *                      out of respective DB2 states (i.e. if   *
  *                      a change puts an object into check      *
  *                      pending status (CHKP)), the result      *
  *                      will produce SQLCODE162 which will      *
  *                      cause ADBTEP2 to run a check data       *
  *                      against the relevant table space.       *
  *                      ADBTEP2 runs the equivalent utility if  *
  *                      an object gets put into reorg-pending   *
  *                      (REORP) as well. Same with rebuild      *
  *                      pending.                                *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  ****************************************************************
  The ADBTEP2 logic has now changed to check for and resolve
  table space restrictive states before the index background
  utilities are attempted. Currently the table space is not
  always checked and, even if it were, it would not always run
  the utility for the table space first. Additionally, if a table
  space is in REORG-pending state and it has an index in PSRBD-
  state, the REORG of the table space will be escalated to
  reorganize the entire table space.
  

Problem conclusion

• Problem has been resolved.  Existing Work Statement Lists
  ( WSL ) will not be affected.
