Error description
After upgrading the VOB server to IBM Rational ClearCase 7.1.2.3 importing an update packet with multitool syncreplica may cause Microsoft Windows to produce an application error and Unix or Linux to produce a segmentation fault. Windows error Popup error message: The instruction at ?address? The referenced memory at ?address? The memory could not be read Similar messages will be seen in the Windows Application Event Logs. Unix syncreplica -import will fail with a Segmentation fault error and a core file will be created. The error occurs because an oplog's 'event info' is null. So far this has only been seen with mklabel operations but it is possible that other oplogs may cause this as well. Verifying the problem From a view and vob context run multitool lspacket -long -dump ?packet name? Where packet name is the packet failing to import. Search the output for a mklabel operation that is missing the 'event comment=' section example: 12390: op= mklabel replica_oid= bd9f6920.322a5a64.985d.41:68:70:99:06:e1 (*object not found*) oplog_id= 5110 op_time= 2011-07-04T12:20:00Z create_time= 2011-07-04T12:20:00Z data size= 36 data= 0x1058d50 ?cut? The event comment is usually found between the op_time and data size for mklabel and should look similar to this: op_time= 2011-07-04T12:20:00Z create_time= 2011-07-04T12:20:00Z event comment= 'comment' data size= 36 data= 0x1058d50 Note: A blank event comment will not cause the problem event comment= '' Note: there may be multiple mklabel operations that do have a proper event comment so to quickly test for this issue count the number of 'op=' values and compare with the number of 'event comment=' instances. If the values do not match, this is most likely the issue causing the import failure. Workaround None
