Error description

  • When executing 'cleartool ls' to determine if a given version
    exists ('cleartool ls foo.c@@MYLABEL'), the command may take
    significantly longer on Solaris than on Linux or Microsoft
    Windows.
    
    Steps to reproduce:
    1) set into a view while logged in on a Solaris host.
    2) cd into a vob containing source code
    3) pick an element, for purposes of illustration, 'foo.c' is
    used in the example.
    4) run 'time cleartool ls foo.c@@/main/no-such-branch/9'
    5) observe time taken for the operation.
    6) repeat steps 1-5 on a Linux host.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available in ClearCase versions 7.1.1.8, 7.1.2.5
    and 8.0.0.1
