    ****************************************************************
The Rational License Server 7.1 was installed on a Linux
machine with SLES 10 Linux in a VMWare virtual environment.
When using the lmhostid utility there was no hostid found.
This machine had 3 ethernet interfaces. When using the
MACaddress for ifeth1 the license server could not be
    started. The error reported was
18:00:06 (ibmratl) SERVER line says 005056000014, hostid is
    (Can't get hostid of type 2 [])
18:00:06 (ibmratl) Invalid hostid on SERVER line

Problem conclusion

  • The SLES 10 OS is not a supported OS for the License Server.
Additionally in a technote from Flexera, Q206115, they say
that it is interface eth0 that is used to get the hostid. So
a possible solution, although unsupported, could be to map
    the interface ifeth1 to eth0.
