PM33275: A JAVA.LANG.ASSERTIONERROR OCCURS WHEN RENDERING PAGE NAVIGATION COMPONENTS IN THE WEB CONTENT VIEWER (JSR 286)

Error description

• The Web Content Viewer (JSR 286) fails to render Page
  Navigation
  components and shows the error message 'Something went wrong
  - Please report this problem to the portal administrator.'
  instead. This error with the detail message 'wcm:content:
  java.lang.AssertionError' occurs only if Java Assertions are
  enabled for the WebSphere Portal server. The assertion error
  also
  prevents the blogs and wikis feature from working as expected,
  because it employs Page Navigation components. In case of an
  error, the SystemOut.log file shows a stack trace similar to
  the
  snippet given below:

Local fix

• A workaround for this issue is to disable Java Assertions. This
  can be done using the WAS administrative console. The WebSphere
  variable 'WPS_JVM_ARGUMENTS_EXT' enables assertions by setting
  the JVM argument '-enableassertions'.
