Error description
When the component requests to create a fixed storage pool, it can either default the maximum size or specify how large the pool may be. The maximum allowed by DB2 storage manager for Above The Bar ( ATB ) fixed pools is 250M which is also the default. Since this is ATB storage, we can allow these pools, which are mostly DB2 system pools, to grow to 2G-4K which is the same maximum size for variable pools. Typically, this threshold will not be reached since these blocks usually reach a working set level much lower than 2G. ABEND04E RC00E2000C 00E2000C . DB2OVRLAY/K

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 V9 HDB9910 users only. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1.. Above-the-bar ( ATB ) fixed pools * * have a default and maximum size limit * * of 250M while variable pools are * * allowed to have almost 2G. * * 2.. A variable declare error allowed * * the DB2 storage manager pools to have a * * larger expansion size than the physical * * range of storage available. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** 1.. The maximum allowed size of an ATB fixed pool was kept at 250M, the same as the Below-the-bar pools, even though there is much more virtual storage available ATB. 2.. A storage overlay would occur if these storage manager pools were to actually reach the allowed storage limit since that is much larger than the virtual actually reserved for these pools.
Problem conclusion
1.. The size for fixed ATB pools has been changed to allow them to be declared with sizes up to slightly less than 2G. The default has also been changed to this same limit. 2.. The logic for the storage manager control blocks pools has been changed to limit the expansion of the pool to equal the physical amount of storage reserved for each pool.
