PM30481: PE CLIENT THREAD SUMMARY WINDOW IN SNAPSHOT HISTORY MODE DOES NOT ALLOW NAVIGATION IN FULL RANGE OF AVAILABLE SNAPSHOTS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When the Thread Summary display is brought up the first time,
  the table of contents for the snapshot hstory data set is
  retrieved form the monitoring PE Server subtask.  The first
  megabyte of transferred data contains 32762 entries of the table
  of contents (TOC) which lists the times when the snapshots was
  taken.  There is one entry generated every minute because the
  sample interval is 60 seconds.  The tic marks in the slider are
  generated out of the TOC.  The data volume which can be
  transferred from PE Server to the PE Client is limited to 1 MB.
  Thus the TOC must be transferred in more junks than just one.
  If the production system has more activity then more data are
  stored in the snapshot history data set for one snapshot and
  less snapshots fit.  Thus, less entries have to be maintained in
  the TOC and they might fit 1MB (one junk) and the problem does
  not show up.
  

Local fix

• Remove the filter criteria currently set for the thread summary
  window.
  
  As work around the Snapshot History data set size can be
  reduced. A size of 1000 MB will limit the amount of snapshots
  such that the TOC fits 1MB.

  PROBLEM SUMMARY:
  The navigation in the snapshot history reloads each time the
  complete history toc. In case of a great toc, the history
  toolbar is refreshed and newer history entries are not
  immediately available.
  
  PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
  Navigation in the history data does not reload the complete
  history toolbar. It is loaded when opening a window and
  when switching the filter on or off.
