APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Client upgraded Cognos 8.3 environment to 8.4.1 and ran into
    issue with        ?Data Manager. Their job is setup to rerun 3
    times in case of failure. For    ?example source database goes
    down but if it recovers within few minutes    ?the job will
    rerun and complete successfully.
    ?The issue is related to the status variables. At the end of
    dimension      ?builds there is a condition node which checks
    for the status of each       ?dimension. When there are 2 or
    more failures status is not set             ?correctly at the
    next rerun. One of the dimensional builds still
    ?reports failure even if it finished successfully.
               ??I created sample catalog based on the GOSALES
    database. To replicate       ?the behavior I renamed random
    fields in 2 tables that break 2              ?dimensional builds
    at the first run; i.e. gosalesrt.RETAILER_TYPE and
    ?gosales. PRODUCT_LINE broke ProductDim and SiteDim. Right after
    first      ?run I renamed them back to the correct field names
    and they were           ?supposed to complete successfully.
    There is 60 sec delay to rename the     ?fields. In version 8.3
    this works correctly and both previously failed     ?dimensions
    complete successfully with TRUE status. In 8.4.1 both
    ?dimensions completed successfully but ProductDim status was
    FALSE. Same    ?behavior repeats in subsequent runs and
    eventually job fails.              ?I m attaching job logs from
    both environments and also backup of DM        ?catalog (from v
    8.3). Source and Target connections were both pointed      ?to
    GOSALES database.
