Error description

• Error messages appearing when opening an existing workspace in
  Rational Developer for Systemz 7.6.0.1. 'Error occurred: Daemon
  failed to start. Check that port 8001 is valid and is not in
  use. If required, the port number can be changed through
  workbench preferences'
  
  This error normally means that the debug daemon port, by default
  set to 8001, is occupied by another process as per the following
  tech note as a known issue with the debug preference setting of
  Rational Application Developer with the recommended solution

  User Affected: Rational Application Developer users who open
  multiple workspaces.
  Problem Description:
  When multiple workspaces use the same debug daemon port, an
  error message will appear asking users to modify the port
  number.  This error message will appear whether you are
  debugging or not, because the daemon port must be
  initialized during initialization of the workspace.
  

Problem conclusion

• The error dialog has been enhanced in Rational Application
  Developer 7.5.5.2 to document this behavior more clearly. It
  also includes a link to the preference page where user can
  modify the daemon port number.
