Error description
In the UCM integration, if a ClearQuest email rule is triggered during the linking of a ClearCase activity to a ClearQuest recor d, a failure of the email rule will prevent the correct completi on of the process and leave a ClearCase activity in an inconsist ent state. Further attempts to use the same activity will throw the error message: Could not perform requested operation : a UCM/ClearQuest data in consistency may exist Activity 'activity XXXXXX.YYYYYY' should be linked but is not Use cleartool chproject -crmenable or project properties to corr ect this. The CC activity cannot be used until it is fixed with cleartool checkvob -ucm -fix -view VIEWNAME activity:activity XX XXXX.YYYYYY@/vobs/PVOB_NAME Once fixed it can be normally used for check-ins and check-outs even if the email rule continues to fail on those operations. There are basically two scenarios leading to the inconsistent ac tivity: 1. Checking -in or -out a file the user chooses to create a new ClearQuest record 2. The ClearQuest record is created in advance and the user sele cts that record on the check-in/-out operations. In both cases a new ClearCase activity should be created matchin g the new (case 1) or existing (case 2) ClearQuest record. Both 1 and 2 imply actions (typically 'Modify') on the ClearQuest rec ord that may trigger an email rule. If the email rule fails (for example because of a temporary unavailability of the SMTP serve r), the ClearCase user will receive the corresponding error mess age when trying to complete the operation (OK button). The only way out of the check-in/-out dialog box will be to select 'Cance l'. This leaves the a ClearCase activity with the correct Title, but actually unlinked to the ClearCase record. Steps to reproduce: 1. Set up a UCM integration. 2. In CQ, create an email rule to be triggered on 'Modify' actio ns for the UCM integrated record type. 3. In CQ, make sure that the email rule fails by setting an none xistent SMTP server 4. In CC explorer, check-out a file and select the button 'New.. .' 5. Complete the mandatory fields on the CQ form and save the CQ record. 6. Click 'OK' on the 'Check Out' dialog box. The error message f rom the email rule pops up. 7. Accept the error message and select 'Cancel' on the 'Check O ut' dialog box 8. In CC Explorer select 'My Activities' the activity is listed there and looks correct, but trying to set it, you get the error message informing of its inconsistent state.
