    A java.lang.NullPointerException may occur when a JAX-WS SOAP
handler is configured, and SOAP message contains an element
    with attribute.

    Here is an example error:

---- Begin backtrace for Nested Throwables
    java.lang.NullPointerException
            at
    com.ibm.xtq.xslt.runtime.DOMBuilder.startElement(Unknown Source)
            at
    org.apache.xml.serializer.ToXMLSAXHandler.closeStartTag(Unknown
    Source)
            at
    org.apache.xml.serializer.ToSAXHandler.flushInternal(Unknown
    Source)
    ... ...

Problem conclusion

  • The attribute type was not being stored when a SOAP handler
was configured. The JAX-WS engine was corrected to properly
store the attribute type when processing SOAP element.

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 7.0.0.11. Please refer to the Recommended Updates
