PM08515: IMS GOES INTO A HANG WHEN QCF IS ACTIVE - CONTINUATION OF APAR PM03956

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• IMS goes into a wait when QCF is active. APAR PK69330 and
  APAR PK84580 are on.  The longest waiting save flow differs
  slightly from those two APAR's:  This flow is:
  TFSTMS00 - DFSFXC30 - DFSSYI40 - DFSFXC40 - XFERDEST - DFSPREQ0
  DFSQMGR0 - DFSQFX00 - DFSQC021 - DFSQC020 - UNKNOWN  - QMRIB000
  IQCCQTT0 - CQTT1000 - DFSIWAIT.

Local fix

Problem summary

• ****************************************************************
  * USERS AFFECTED: All users of QCF3.1 that use overflow        *
  *                 protection type 3 (AREA and/or FAILSAFE      *
  *                 control cards present in IMS control         *
  *                 region customization member).                *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WAIT/POSTs are used to obtain shared    *
  *                      or exclusive control over the tracking  *
  *                      table, which matches the sources to     *
  *                      the jobnames or to the destinations     *
  *                      names.                                  *
  *                      Timing window errors in WAIT/POST       *
  *                      logic in QCF causes some elements to    *
  *                      fall out of the wait queue, so they     *
  *                      are never posted and cause IMS hangs.   *

  All programs that issue WAIT/POST are reviewed and improved.
  

Problem conclusion

• Install the fix and recycle IMS to get new code working.
