Error description
Client installed following products: 1) RAD IBM Rational Application Developer 6.0.1.2 IBM 32-bit Runtime Environment for Java 2, v1.4.2 SR9 IBM Rational Application Developer Interim Fix 001 for Rational Application Developer, Version 6.0.1.2 . 2)Websphere Application Server IBM Websphere Application Developer 6.0.2.35 And then client tried to install IBM Websphere Commerce Developer 6.0 over RAD, by following instruction in following URL: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wchelp/v6r0m0/index.jsp ?topic=/com.ibm.commerce.esupport.doc/html/Installation/swg21243 206.html According to above URL, client run a setup.bat to install WCD on RAD, setup.bat actually call ANT task which perform setup.xml(I have uploaded that on FTP), to create wte profile, configure testing server, deploying applications etc, please reference attached setup.xml. When performing setup.xml, client got following error: <--exception--> !ENTRY com.ibm.etools.ejbdeploy 4 0 Aug 07, 2009 13:33:53.696 !MESSAGE java.lang.NoSuchFieldError: com/ibm/CORBA/iiop/PartnerVersion.UNKNOWN at com.ibm.rmi.util.RepositoryId.<clinit>(RepositoryId.java:162) at java.lang.Class.initializeImpl(Native Method) at java.lang.Class.initialize(Class.java:339) at com.ibm.tools.rmic.iiop.Type.setRepositoryID(Type.java:1030) at I also uploaded their log file, by checking log file, we can find the exception thrown at line 66 ejbdeploy task. Client find that this problem only happen when they applied 'Java SDK 1.4.2 SR13 for V6.0.2' on WAS, if they uninstall the JDK fixpack and revert to SR9, the setup runs correctly. As in exception log file, there is RMIC component involved, WCD supporter asked JDK support team if this is RMIC problem, they analyzed the log file, and can find following: 1) As there is' j9n142-20070708 (JIT enabled)' shown in log file, this version number shows used JDK is still SR9; So this problem looks like RAD EJBDeploy is not picking up the right JDK after JDK upgrade.
Local fix
Problem summary
The JDK in WebSphere Application Server 6.0.2 has changed such that some of the classes are not compatible with those in JDK of Rational Application Developer 6.0.2.
Problem conclusion
The class loader in Rational Application Developer 6.0.2 will load the changed classes in a way that will not encounter the incompatibilities in the changed classes.
Temporary fix
