PK96402: CICS CATALOG ENQUEUE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The user does an EXPORT in CICS with a bad dsname (TSO id only
  in this case) an enqueue is put on the catalog that the TSO
  userid is in and doesn't release it. CICS has to be bounced.
  Message IEC142I 113-2C is issued.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Users erroneously issuing the EXPORT or *
  *                      IMPORT commands TO or FROM VSAM         *
  *                      datasets can cause enqueues on the VSAM *
  *                      catalog. Messages   IEC142I 113-2C      *
  *                      (MSGIEC142I ABEND113) can be seen. In   *
  *                      CICS, this can cause the region to hang *
  *                      with the following messages being seen: *
  *                      MSGDFHAP0001 ABENDAKEB in DSQCBST.      *
  *                      In TSO, similar messages are seen with  *
  *                      the addition of MSGDSQ50176 OBTAIN      *
  *                      error.                                  *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  ****************************************************************
  QMF for TSO/CICS does not support EXPORT TO or IMPORT FROM VSAM
  data sets. If a user erroneously issues the EXPORT or IMPORT
  command TO or FROM a VSAM data set, QMF will not check if the
  target data set is VSAM and will continue with open processing.
  This causes the problems described above.
  

Problem conclusion

• Prior to opening existing data sets in the EXPORT or IMPORT
  command, QMF will check to determine if the data set is VSAM. If
  it is, QMF will issue the error message: DSQ50042 'You cannot
  EXPORT TO or IMPORT FROM VSAM data sets.'
