PK94296: LOAD FAILS WITH MSGDSNU310I ERROR CODE 14 CONVERSION ERROR USINGCONTROL CARDS GENERATED BY UNLOAD OF UNICODE DATA

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Customer was unloading an EBCDIC table with XML columns in
  unicode format.  Using the generated control cards to load the
  data into a table with identical definitions resulted in
  MSGDSNU310I error code 14.  The POSITION value for a CHAR
  column following a NULL indicator was incorrect.
  

Local fix

• Correct the position values.

  User ran an UNLOAD utility on an EBCDIC table unloading in
  UNICODE format.  A subsequent LOAD utility, using the generated
  SYSPUNCH control cards from the LOAD, ended with RC4, with
  MSGDSNU310I - RECORD (n) WILL BE DISCARDED DUE TO column_name
  CONVERSION ERROR FOR table_name ERROR CODE '14 - INPUT IS
  INVALID FOR DATE/TIME' for all input records.  The POSITION
  value for a CHAR column that was nullable, was incorrect.
  The POSITION value was (92:315) instead of (92:316), because
  UNLOAD did not account for the NULL BYTE (DSN_NULL_IND_00002)
  

Problem conclusion

• UNLOAD has been modified to calculate the correct POSITION value
