APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When there is little or no activity in an IMS system, and the
  log is used several days with a lot of SIMPLE checkpoints, it
  causes the area that keeps track of the checkpoints on the
  starting log to overflow and overlay the storage. This results
  in the ABENDS0C4 in IQCAEG01 due to contents of R1 as FOF04040.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: ABEND0C4 OUT OF IQCAEG01 X'98C'. This   *
  *                      happens if there are more than 100      *
  *                      checkpoints of any type on the log data *
  *                      set selected for a start log data set.  *
  *                      If there is no activity and more than   *
  *                      100 simple checkpoints on the starting  *
  *                      log - the area that is preserved to     *
  *                      keep track of the checkpoints on the    *
  *                      first log overflows and the storage is  *
  *                      odamagged - this causes a 0C4 in        *
  *                      IQCAEG01.                               *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  ****************************************************************
  Install the fix to avoid 0C4. 0C4 can happen without the fix if
  the starting log data set contains more than 100 checkpoints of
  any type-for example, if there is no activity for the specified
  IMS and the log data set is large, more than 100 simple
  checkpoints can be written to the log data set, causing storage
  overflow and 0C4.
  

Problem conclusion

• Install the fix to avoid 0C4.
