Error description

  • For an RLS dataset, where the corresponding CICS File definition
has no Dataset Name, a File Open Time of Firstref and an Initial
Status of Enabled, if a Dataset Name is assigned to the
installed CICS File definition using CEMT then at the next CICS
Cold start CICS Batch Application Control (CBAC) quiesces the
    dataset.

CBAC does this quiesce only on a Cold start of CICS, when it
needs to set the Dataset Name, not on a Warm start.
CBAC also quiesces for a file that it needs to set to Disabled
or Unenabled when CICS Cold starts.
When both the CBAC Before status and Requested status are
Closed, CBAC quiesces a dataset if any change is needed to its
installed CICS File definition at a CICS Cold start, for example
to set the Dataset Name, or to set the status to Unenabled.
It might reasonably be expected that CBAC quiesce a dataset if a
file had a CBAC Before status of Open and a CBAC After status of
Closed, but not in other circumstances.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of CICS BAC V1.1.1 *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: At startup CICS BAC may quiesce the *
    * dataset associated an RLS file even *
    * when it is not necessary to do so. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
CICS BAC startup processing has been changed so that when
CICS BAC encounters a file defined with RLSACCESS(YES), and the
current state of the file is closed, and the requested state of
the file is closed, CICS BAC will not quiesce the data set
    associated with the file.

Problem conclusion

  • CICS BAC has been changed so that it does not quiesce the data
set associated an RLS file when the current state of a file is
closed and the requested state of the file is closed.
