PK80201: S0C4 ABEND IN DCAS WITH DEBUG ACTIVE

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The Digital Certificate Access Server (DCAS) has been started
  with a non-zero debug level specified.  for random connections,
  the server will experience an S0C4 ABEND.  When this occurs, it
  will be accompanied by several BPXP011I messages, and eventually
  a BPXP023I THREAD ... WAS TERMINATED BY SIGNAL SIGCNCL ...
  message and an S422/000001A0 ABEND.
  
  Debug messages recorded in SYSLOGD at the time of the ABEND will
  be similar to the following:
  
     DCAS (CNxxx) CLIENT ACTIVATING ON SECURE PORT 8990 ADDR ....
     DCAS (CNxxx) ALLOCATED Thread Data 2fbb53b8
     DCAS (CNxxx) gsk_secure_soc_init() COMPLETE ON PORT 8990
     DCAS (CNxxx) CLIENT USING SSL VERSION: xxxxx
     DCAS (CNxxx) CLIENT USING SSL CIPHER xx
     DCAS (CNxxx) RECEIVED DATA. LEN: 32, DATA:
     DCAS (CNxxx) CLIENT INPUT OPC: 1,FMT: 2,CORR:   1
                   APPL:xxxxxxxx CLEN:6
     DCAS (CNxxx) RECEIVED DATA. LEN: 6, DATA:
  
  Examination of the dump will show that the call sequence of the
  failing thread was:
  
     ClientThread
     logmsg
     syslog
     vfprintf  (ABEND was in here)
  
  The message being processed will be 'DCAS (CNxxx) FMT2
  Data:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx', where the data string contains at
  least one '%'.
  

Local fix

• Do use the debug option (-d) when starting DCAS, unless there is
  a specific problem investigation being performed.
