Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of DB2 Administration Tool who *
    * use the ALC function on a table with *
    * DATA CAPTURE CHANGES enabled. *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DB2 allows certain changes to be *
    * made with the DB2 ALTER statement *
    * and disallows others when the table *
    * is defined with DATA CAPTURE CHANGES. *
    *                                                              *
    * ALC will conform to DB2 limitations and *
    * restrict ALTER against a DATA CAPTURE *
    * CHANGES table if the data type, length, *
    * precision or scale is being changed. *
    *                                                              *
    * Other operations allowed by DB2 ALTER, *
    * such as adding a column to the end of *
    * the table, will be likewise allowed in *
    * ALC. When not possible, the operation *
    *                      will remain a "DROP" or "DROP-SC" (DROP *
    *                      with Skip Convert).                     *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply The PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    When using the ALC function to add a column at the end of the
    table, such a column may be allowed by the DB2 ALTER TABLE ADD
    COLUMN statement.

    In some circumstances, ALC was not using ALTER but was requiring
    that the table be dropped and recreated.
