APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • FPA ANALYZE ends with a return code of 0, although the SORT
program invoked internally ends with an error.
Similarly, FPA CHANGE, RELOAD, or REORG with PTRCHKLVL=FULL
ends with a return code of 0, although the SORT program invoked
    internally ends with an error.

For Example, if the intermediate storage data sets used by
DFSORT already had 16 extents, but required more space,
DFSORT (that is invoked internally) gets the error and an
IEC030I B37-04 message is issued. Then the return code from
DFSORT is 16, but FPA ANALYZE does not check this return
    code correctly.

    ****************************************************************
FPA ANALYZE ends with a return code of 0, although the SORT
program invoked internally ends with an error.
Similarly, FPA CHANGE, RELOAD, or REORG with PTRCHKLVL=FULL,
Online Pointer Checker with FULLSTEP=YES and TYPRUN=RPT, or
Online Pointer Checker with FULLSTEP=YES and TYPRUN=PTRALL ends
with a return code of 0, although the SORT program invoked
    internally ends with an error.

For Example, if the intermediate storage data sets used by
DFSORT already had 16 extents, but required more space, DFSORT
(that is invoked internally) gets the error and issues an
ICE046A message or an ICE083A message. Then the return code from
DFSORT is 16, but FPA ANALYZE does not check this return code
    correctly.

Problem conclusion

  • When the SORT program invoked internally ends with an error
(the return code is not 0 or 4), ANALYZE function is aborted
    with HFPA3401E message.

    HFPA messages

The following message should be added as follows:
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
HFPA3401E SORT ENDED ABNORMALLY. (RC: code, TCT: tctname)

Explanation: The SORT program invoked internally ends with an
error. code is the return code from the SORT program.

System action: If the ANALYZE command is specified, the job ends
with an abend code of U3003.
If the CHANGE, RELOAD, or REORG command with PTRCHKLVL=FULL is
specified, the return code is set to 12 and processing
    continues.
If FULLSTEP=YES and TYPRUN=RPT are specified for OPC, or
FULLSTEP=YES and TYPRUN=PTRALL are specified for OPC, the job
ends with an abend code of U3006.

Programmer response: Check the message and return code from the
SORT program. Correct the problem, then rerun the job.
