PK78236: PERFORMANCE DEGRADATION AFTER APPLYING PK66575

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When HPIO=Y was specified prior to PK66575, HPIC V4 used Media
  Manager (MM) for ESDS.  However, MM cannot detect new extents
  added to the database while it is online.  This integrity
  exposure needed to be fixed quickly, so PK66575 changed the
  ESDS call from MM to VSAM I/O.  This however increased EXCP
  counts and decreased performance in HPIC CIC against an ESDS.
  So a new solution is sought.

  Performance degradation occurs in HPIC Concurrent image copy
  process with HPIO=Y keyword when PTF UK36874 ( APAR PK66575 ) is
  applied.
  
  In APAR PK66575 HPIC was modified to use VSAM I/O instead of
  using the Media Manager. However EXCP counts are increased and
  performance is degraded than before applying PTF UK36874.
  
  HPIC should get the updated High Used RBA by VSAM SHOWCB macro
  with ENDRBA keyword, even if the DB is extended by the online
  program.
  
  This APAR improves performance by using Media Manager with
  the updated High Used RBA.
  

Problem conclusion

• FABJDPSN has been modified to use the Media Manager with the
  updated High Used RBA that is gained by VSAM SHOWCB macro, when
  HPIO=Y keyword is specified in ICEIN.
  
  The following modules have been reassembled.
