Error description
An SMSVSAM failure led to CICS trying to immediately close the files that were open against RLS. During CICS' processing we generated msgDFHFC0501 indicating an RLS File open failure, causing CICS to drain the ACB. This forces an immediate close of the RLS files, and FCT_IMMCLOSE is left on because the file is already closed (since the Open request failed). . Additional Symptom(s) Search Keyword(s): KIXREVRJS RLS_DISABLED Recursive
Local fix
CLOSE the affected files, DISCARD, then re-INSTALL the applicable file definitions. Alternative LOCAL FIX: Recycle affected CICS regions.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Requests against an RLS file result in * * an abendAFCS after the SMSVSAM server * * is recycled. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** An SMSVSAM server is recycled. While this is happening, CICS issues an OPEN request against an RLS file which results in msgDFHFC0501 being issued as the SMSVSAM server is unavailable at the time of the request. As the RLS file request has failed, the task begins clean up and attaches transaction CSFR to drain the ACBs. The new task created by the attach issues a close immediate on all files on the open ACB chain. This sets FCT_IMMCLOSE on for the RLS file. CSFR continues with close_immediate processing but finds that the file is already closed and exits the routine without unsetting the FCT_IMMCLOSE bit. Once the SMSVSAM server is online again, any subsequent request against that same RLS file will abend AFCS as the FCT_IMMCLOSE bit is on. All requests against this file will continue to abendAFCS until the file is closed disabled, discarded, reinstalled and reopened or the CICS system is restarted. Additional Keywords: FC0501 DFHFC0501
Problem conclusion
DFHFCFS has been altered to ensure that when an immediate close is issued, FCT_IMMCLOSE is turned off.
