Error description

  • During the DRF Database recovery verification process, we
    encountered the problem with PITR of DEDB Database. The job
    hangs/loops on the number of hours until we cancel that job.
    For the same DEDB Database tool approximately 10 minutes with
    TSR recovery option.

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: .                                            *
    * All DRF V3.1 Installations.                                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: DRF GETMAINs storage for Log Data Set *
    * Descriptor (LDSD) blocks and FREEMAINs them when no longer *
    * needed. In some instances with IMS V10 RESLIB, DRF *
    * FREEMAINed more storage than was GETMAINed. This eventually *
    * may lead to a storage overlay resulting in unpredictable *
    * results including hang, 0C4, A78 or other storage oriented *
    * abends. The potential for this problem also exists when *
    * running with IMS V9 RESLIB.                                  *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF *
    ****************************************************************
    .

Problem conclusion

  • * DRF now FREEMAINs the correct length and the storage *
    * overlay is prevented.                                        *
