Error description

  • The FPB DEDB PC FABADA1 SDEP validation process may consume
considerable CPU time if there's a large number of logically
deleted SDEP segments within the SDEP LB/LE boundary.
    boundary.
This APAR enhances FPB DEDB PC FABADA1 to introduce an option
to bypass the SDEP validation process using the internal table.
Actual validation will be done in step FABADA3, which is the
same as valid SDEP segments and DDEP segments validation.

Keywords: Pointer Checker Fast Path Basic

Additional issue addressed: DEDB PC appears to loop in
FABADA1. Although the job does complete, it just has higher
    CPU usage than expected.
Keywords: Pointer Checker looping utilization time run

This is a forward fit of IMS HPFP V310 PK63557.

Forward Fit APAR of HPFP V2R2 PK63557.
This APAR provides a new FPB FABADA1 option to bypass the
SDEP validation process using the internal table for the
    performance improvement.
Actual validation of SDEP segments will be performed in
    succeeding FABADA3 step.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 3. Using DEDB Pointer Checker utility
    FABADA1 SYSIN data set
    REPORT statement
    TBLENTRY=

The following lines should be changed as follows:

The maximum value that can be specified for TBLENTRY is
     | 99999999; the minimum is 0. When the specified value is
greater than 63161283, FPB internally replaces the specified
     | value to 63161283. When the specified value is 0, FPB
     | bypasses the SDEP validation process using the SDEP table.
     | And FABADA1 outputs all pointer information records and the
     | segment information records for all logically deleted SDEP
     | segments as same as valid ones to DAR3CSO data set to resolve
     | at FABADA3.
The default value is 10000. The length of an entry in the
SDEP table is 34 bytes. The table resides above 16M by using
GETMAIN. So if you need to define many entries for a deleted
SDEP check, increase your region size as well.

    Appendix O. Messages and codes
      FABA Messages
The following message should be added as follows:
    --------------------------------------------------------------
FABA0177I - TBLENTRY=0 IS SPECIFIED - SDEP TABLE IS NOT USED
    FOR SDEP VALIDATION

Explanation: TBLENTRY=0 is specified in the SYSIN DD control
statement of the FABADA1 JCL. Program FABADA1 does not use the
SDEP table for SDEP validation process. And all pointer
information records and the segment information records for
all logically deleted SDEP segments are outputed to DAR3CSO
data set to resolve at program FABADA3.

    System action: FABADA1 continues processing.

    Programmer response: None.
    --------------------------------------------------------------
FABA0345I - LOGICALLY DELETED ORPHAN SDEP SEGMENT DETECTED

Explanation: Program FABADA3 detected one or more logically
deleted orphan SDEP segments. Even if program FABADA1 ended
with the message FABA0138E, program FABADA3 will end with RC=0
if no other kind of errors detected.

System action: FABADA3 ignores such logically deleted orphan
SDEP segments as normal assuming that such logically deleted
orphan SDEP segment exists due to the deletion of parent root
    segments, and continues processing.

    Programmer response: None.
