Error description

  • When a data set allocation failure occurs with error message
    IQCA031E, it does not sufficiently explain the error.

    As this APAR also fixes PE'd PK61764 ( UK34093 ), the symptom
    that may occur if this APAR/PTF is not on is as follows:
     After selecting messages from logs to rebuild the queues or to
     reprocess, the secondary messages have the QCF prefix set to
     x'00' which causes the load to end with error message:
     Unknown IMS release. Terminating
     .
     Normally, the QCF prefix would have been rebuilt and would
     exist where the x'00' (zeroes) are occuring.

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of QCF2.1 that use *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: QCF2.1 uses dynamic allocation *
    * for log data sets - to restore the *
    *                      messages.                               *
    * When a data set allocation failure *
    * occures with MSGIQCA031E, there is not *
    * enough information printed which is the *
    * data set that failed to allocate. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The programs have been changed to print the data set name and
    the action when an error occures in dynamic
    allocation/deallocation of data set.

Problem conclusion

  • More information is printed to debug allocation/deallocation
    failures.
