APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • some combinations of DISP(OLD|NEW) and OUTPUT(DUP|PRO) does not
    work for VSAM datasets
    The combinations that fail may be expanded as we continue our
    research of combinations DISP(OLD|NEW) and OUTPUT(DUP|PRO|BOTH)
    with both OSAM and VSAM.

Local fix

  • use DISP(OLD) and OUTPUT(DUP) and pre-allocate the datasets

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Automatic DELETE/DEFINE functions       *
    * are performed in the DRF subordinate *
    *                      address space.  The FRD4410E message    *
    * is output in the subordinate address *
    * space while obtaining characteristics: *

    During DELETE/DEFINE processing,
    obtaining dataset characteristics
    for large multi-volume candidates
    resulted in error.  The error
    condition prevented data set
    allocation from succeeding and
    resulted in termination processing.

Problem conclusion

  • AIDS: RIDS/UTIL RIDS/DBS DBS/UTIL
     GEN:
    KEYWORDS:

    *** END IMS KEYWORDS ***
    The product will now collect data set
    characteristics for those that are defined
    with a large number of candidate volumes. If
    an error is experienced in the future, the
    product will output FRD4420 with error
    details in the subordinate address space.
