Error description
A "generic" java.lang.NullPointerException message is recorded during a failed regeneration of the HTTP plug-in. This type of exception is usually a result of a bad WebSphere Configuration and not a problem with the HTTP plugin or the regeneration scripts. However, the message is not "specific" enough in determining what is wrong with the WebSphere Configuration. . nPLGC0033E: Runtime exception caught while generating plugin configuration: null java.lang.NullPointerException at com.ibm.websphere.plugincfg.generator.ConfigurationParser. setServerData(ConfigurationParser.java:900) . More "descriptive" messages are needed during the regeneration of the HTTP plug-in to help identify root cause.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server users * * generating plugin-cfg.xml and making * * requests and responses who are * * experiencing problems * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Enhanced the logging for generation of * * plugin-cfg.xml and logging of error * * messages shown for requests and * * responses * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When plugin is generating it's config file there are certian places where it could crash and just show a null pointer exception, or something similar that doesn't give much information. During a request and response there are a few error conditions that could be logged that just show a number in the logs.
Problem conclusion
We added many new logging statements to ConfiguratoinParser, which controls the plugin-cfg.xml generation. It will still display the error message that occured, but when tracing is enabled it will show a more robust set of messages that will allow for easier pinpointing where the exact problem is. The error logging for requests and responses was enhanced. Now the messages that previously just had a number now display what the error condition was along with the line in the code(lib_htresponse.c and lib_htrequest.c) where the problem occured. This fix is targeted for fix packs 6.1.0.15, 6.0.2.27, and 5.1.1.18 Please refer to the recommended updates page for delivery information: http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=180&uid=swg27004980
