Error description

  • The DB2 Administration Tool sample member ADBTMPDB contains
DDL which is invalid under DB2 9 resulting in a SQLCODE -104
CREATE DATABASE "TEMPDB"
AS TEMP
STOGROUP SYSDEFLT;
SQLERROR ON CREATE COMMAND, PREPARE FUNCTION
RESULT OF SQL STATEMENT:
DSNT408I SQLCODE = -104, ERROR: ILLEGAL SYMBOL "TEMP". SOME
SYMBOLS THAT MIGHT BE LEGAL ARE: WORKFILE
.

Local fix

  • Query SYSIBM.SYSDATABASE and look for a database with a
TYPE = 'W' and use that database name instead of TEMPDB if
needed, otherwise do not run the CREATE DATABASE statement
and amend the CREATE TABLESPACE to reference the database
with a TYPE = 'W'.

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The Installation Step 2 : Create a      *

*                      database is unnecessary when using      *
*                      DB2 V9.                                 *

* RECOMMENDATION: Apply The PTF.                               *
****************************************************************
DB2 9 has removed the TEMP database and is now using the WORK
database for DGTTs (Declared Global Temporary Tables).
