Error description

  • In DB2 Administration Tool, using EXPLAIN on PL/I program,
customer reports sqlcode401 when host variable substitution
of '?' occurs for SMALLINT datatype . Error messages appear
similar to:

   SQLCODE : -401                        DSNTIAR CODE :  0
DSNT408I SQLCODE = -401, ERROR:  THE OPERANDS OF AN ARITHMETIC
         OR COMPARISON OPERATION ARE NOT COMPARABLE
.
Additional symptoms: sqlcoden401 sqlcodem401 401 -401 pli
   option 2 panel adb222 adb22 execute SQL statements

Local fix

  • change '?' to ? for non CHAR / VARCHAR datatypes

Problem summary

When using option 2 on panel ADB222 to Explain SQL in a program
containing host variables, DB2 issues SQLCODE -401.
