PK46443: RETURN CODE ZERO ON DRF VERIFY(OPEN) YET SOME NEEDED DATASETS SHOW RC 4

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• During DRF VERIFY(OPEN) needed datasets are checked to see if
  they are available and can be opened. If a dataset is not
  available or has an error during open this is shown in the
  report but the VERIFY Job is posted with a RC 0000.In automation
  it would be helpful to know there are exceptions to the
  verify step before going on with an actual recovery.

  * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF      *

  The DRF VERIFY job always returns a return code of zero upon
  completion even when a failure occurred during the allocation
  or open of an IC, CA, or log data set.  The original design
  behind this was that DRF VERIFY does not perform a recovery.
  Its job is to VERIFY the recovery assets.
  

Problem conclusion

• FRXVVER0 was changed to capture failures from the allocation or
  open steps on the IC, CA, or log data sets.  These failures are
  then interpreted as an overall job completion return code of 4.
