Error description

  • While in Admin doing a ALC on a table to alter a column the
    user inputs member names in panelid ADB27A as follows:
          Member name of single job : TTVIO05
          Member name of Delete job : DTTVIO05
    and in panelid ADB27AJ they enter:
          Data Set Name  ===> pm36607.restore
             Member Name  ===> rttvio05
    But Admin processing creates the wrong member names for Delete
    and Restore.
    ISREPO01 panel shows:

     Name     Prompt
    . DTTVIO01 - incorrect - should have been DTTVIO05
    . TTVIO05 - correct
    and
      RESTORE(RTTVIO00) - incorrect - should have been RTTVIO05

Problem summary

  • ****************************************************************
    * USERS AFFECTED: Users of DB2 Admin Tool attempting an alter *
    *                 specifying  a Delete  and/or Restore member  *
    *                 names.                                       *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If an 8-characeter Delete or Restore *
    * member name is specified with "Combine *
    * job steps" set to No, and "Add to work *
    * stmt list" set to Yes on the "DB2 Admin *
    *                      ALTER"  panel (ADB27A),  the right-most *
    * character of that name is overlaid with *
    *                      a sequence number.                      *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply The PTF. *
    ****************************************************************
    Since Delete and Restore members consist of JCL,they must not
    contain more steps than the maximum number of steps allowable
    in a single job. Consequently provision must be made for the
    possibility that more than one Delete or Restore job must be
    created, hence the need for a name modification algorithm.

Problem conclusion

  • Although the modification of Delete and Restore member names is
    "working as designed", panels ADB27A and ADB27AJ are changed to
    allow a 5 character member name prefix to which is appended the
    three-digit sequence numbers, instead of an 8 character member
    name.The respective help panels,ADBH7A and ADBH7AJ,are modified
    to explain this new behavior.
