Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: IMS Database Recovery Facility Version 3 * * Release 1 users who wish to generate * * Incremental Image Copies. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The current Incremental Image Copy * * capability in DRF allows the user to * * generate a batch image copy when the * * database is brought offline. While * * the database is still online, any * * Incremental Image Copy is generated as * * a concurrent image copy. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF * **************************************************************** Users desire an option that will allow DRF to generate a batch Incremental Image Copy even while the databases are online. The proposed enhancement allows DRF to generate Incremental Image Copies up to the latest available batch window or clean recovery point that contains a complete change accumulation. This process will generate Incremental Image Copies using only the prior image copy and the change accumulation. No logs are used. If a change accumulation is not useable then a copy of the prior image copy is generated.
Problem conclusion
A new OUTPUT(ICRCA) SYSIN option is provided to enhance the existing Incremental Image Copy capability. ICRCA allows the user to generate batch Incremental Image Copies even while the database is still online. DRF will search back for the latest batch window or recovery point and generate the image copy to that time. Provided that a change accumulation is available within that time. If a batch window does not exist with a useable change accumulation then a copy of the prior image copy is generated. FRXMTC and FRXBDMG0 are changed to include new message reason codes for MSGFRD6010W and MSGFRD6022A. FRDEDRF, FRDEDRF0, FRDEPSS0, FRXRVGB, FRXRWSP, and FRXVWSP are changed to support a new OUTPUT(ICRCA) option for generating an incremental image copy up to the latest available change accumulation. FRXGRPT0 is change to report if OUTPUT(ICRCA) was issued. FRXICTL0 is changed to use a timestamp supplied by DBRC for the incremental image copy that is generated with the OUTPUT(ICRCA) option. FRXPDSS0 is changed to trace pipe communication errors. FRXRBUF0 is changed to fix an error which identified a change accumulation spanned record as an OLR record. FRXRWCE and FRXRLRA0 are changed to discard any log records that may exceed the batch recovery point that is used for the incremental image copy. FRXVADD0 is changed to issue MSGFRD6010W if one or more databases used in the OUTPUT(ICRCA) process do not belong to a change accumulation group. FRXVSTA0 is changed to issue MSGFRD6022A if a batch recovery point is not found for the OUTPUT(ICRCA) process. It also issues MSGFRD6022A if the change accumulation used is incomplete. ---- The following DOC changes are made: IMS Database Recovery Facility for z/OS User's Guide and Reference Version 3 Release 1 (SC18-9407-00) -- Chapter 3. Defining and tailoring the IMS Database Recovery Facility environment Modified the existing ICR paragraph description to say: ICR Specifies Incremental Image Copy where a new image copy is created from image copy, log, and/or change accumulation input data sets for every DBDS in the recovery list using the recovery process. Actual database recovery is not performed and the databases are not accessed. In the event you specify OUTPUT(ICR) while the databases are offline, the image copy will be registered to the RECON as BATCH. In the event you specify OUTPUT(ICR) while the databases are online, the image copy will be registered to the RECON as CONCUR. You cannot specify ICR with any other output option. -- Added the following paragraph to describe ICRCA: ICRCA Similar to ICR, but specifies that only a BATCH Incremental Image Copy is to be generated using only a prior image copy and a change accumulation as input. Log input is ignored. DRF will locate and use a timestamp where a clean recovery point or batch window exists. A clean recovery point or batch window in this case is defined as a period of time where the database was previously brought offline or where an OLDS switch occured with logs archived. DRF will use this timestamp provided that a complete change accumulation exists within this time frame. All databases included in the recovery list must belong to the same CAGRP. The resulting Incremental Image Copy will contain all updates up to this change accumulation and registered as a batch image copy to this time. If a complete change accumulation is not found within a useable bath window then a copy of the prior image copy is generated. ---- Chapter 7. Messages and Codes of IMS Database Recovery Facility Added the following new reason codes: FRD6010W UNABLE TO ADD TO rcvlist, entrytype, entryname: reason ... NOT IN CAGRP FOR ICRCA One or more entries in the recovery list do not belong to a CAGRP. The OUTPUT(ICRCA) option requires that all entries belong to a CAGRP. ... FRD6022A UNABLE TO RECOVER: dbname, reason ... INCOMPLETE CA NOT ALLOWED An incomplete change accumulation was detected while attempting to generate a batch Incremental Image Copy using the ICRCA option. A complete change accumulation is required. ... NO BATCH ICR POINT FOUND DRF attempted to generate a batch Incremental Image Copy and was unable to. A useable batch window does not exist. ... System programmer response: INCOMPLETE CA NOT ALLOWED In order to be able to run with the ICRCA option successfully modify your process to ensure that complete change accumulations are generated. Ensure that they are generated to a time where no transactions occur against the database. ... NO BATCH ICR POINT FOUND A batch image copy cannot be generated. Ensure that a batch window exists.
