Error description

  • In IBM? Rational RequisitePro?:
A user is unable to create a requirement from text which is iden
tified by a bookmark in an offline document. This problem occurs
even though the bookmark is not a RequisitePro bookmark. This s
ame problem does not occur in an online document.

The user will receive the following error message when trying to
     do so:
'Can't create a new requirement inside of (or containing) an ex
isting requirement. -Select text that does not include any exist
ing requirement (by double-clicking or dragging).'

It is still possible to successfully edit existing requirements
inside the bookmarks from within the offline document.

    Possible workarounds:
    1. As a workaround you can create the requirements in the bookma
rk in the document when it is opened from RequisitePro - in stea
d of in an offline document.

    2. Another workaround would be to remove the existing bookmark b
efore creating the requirement. This can be done as follows:
The bookmarks for this text can be viewed by following these ste
    ps:
    1) Place the cursor within the text.
    2) Select the ?Insert Menu in Word, and the ?Bookmark command.
    3) Next, a Bookmarks dialog window will display.
    4) In this window, select the option to view hidden bookmarks as
     well.
    5) The bookmark name for this text will be displayed in the Book
    mark name field.
    6) When you select ?Goto, the bookmarked text will be highlighte
    d.
    7) To remove the bookmark, select ?Delete.
This will remove the bookmark. Any (RequisitePro) bookmarks alre
ady inside this bookmark will not be removed.

Local fix

  • Possible workarounds:

    1. As a workaround you can create the requirements in the
bookmark in the document when it is opened from RequisitePro -
in stead of in an offline document.

    2. Another workaround would be to remove the existing bookmark
before creating the requirement. This can be done as follows:
The bookmarks for this text can be viewed by following these
    steps:
    1) Place the cursor within the text.
    2) Select the >Insert Menu in Word, and the >Bookmark command.
    3) Next, a Bookmarks dialog window will display.
    4) In this window, select the option to view hidden bookmarks as
    well.
    5) The bookmark name for this text will be displayed in the
    Bookmark name field.
    6) When you select >Goto, the bookmarked text will be
    highlighted.
    7) To remove the bookmark, select >Delete.
This will remove the bookmark. Any (RequisitePro) bookmarks
already inside this bookmark will not be removed.

Problem summary

  • Users were unable to create a requirement in an offline
document if its text was positioned within a bookmark that
was not created by Rational? RequisitePro?.

Problem conclusion

  • The requirement creation function has been modified to
disregard bookmarks that were not created by Rational?
RequisitePro? and, therefore, allow the creation of
    requirements in the offline document.
