  *                      supports input data sets, such as       *
  *                      image copies, logs, and change          *
  *                      accumulation, that are generated by     *
  *                      current IMS releases.  However, users   *
  *                      who keep an archive of pre-IMS V6       *
  *                      image copies available require a        *
  *                      solution that will restore only the     *
  *                      image copy for them.  They require a    *
  *                      solution that does not include a        *
  *                      re-installation of IMS V6.              *

  * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF      *

  It is currently documented that DRF supports input data sets,
  such as image copies, logs, and change accumulation, that are
  generated by current IMS releases.  It is also documented that
  log data sets generated by pre-IMS V6 releases cannot be used
  as input to DRF because of a missing store clock value in the
  log record suffix.  However, users expressed an interest in a
  tools solution that will enable them to restore from just the
  image copies generated by prior releases of IMS.

  DRF can allow users to supply image copies generated by prior
  release IMS provided that no log data sets or change
  accumulation are used in their recovery.

  Chapter 2. Administering the IMS Database Recovery Facility
  Add the following sub-section under the "Managing Inputs"
  section:
  
  Input Data Sets from Pre-IMS V6 Releases
    The IMS Database Recovery Facility processes image copies,
    logs, and change accumulation inputs generated under any
    currently supported IMS release, as stated in Chapter 1
    Introducing the IMS Database Recovery Facility.  It is also
    possible to have IMS Database Recovery Facility restore from
    image copies generated under prior IMS releases (IMS V6 and
    below) . This may be useful in cases where you maintain an
    archive of old image copies that have not yet been updated to
    the latest IMS release type.  In order to be able to restore
    from these image copies the following conditions must be
    considered:
  
    * The database must be registered to the RECON.
    * The image copy must be registered to the RECON.
    * No logs or change accumulation may be supplied to recovery.
    * No ALLOC entries can be registered under the same database
      that is being restored from a pre-IMS V6 image copy.
