Error description

  • Customer changes the numparts of a tablespace and when using
Object Compare R710 it drops and recreates the tablespace
instead of doing a smart alter . GOC output shows:
    Compare tablespace source(xxx.yyyy) and
    target(xxx.yyy)
        (D)Field NUMPARTS changed from 5 to 4
        Tablespace DB35298.S60A0100 will be dropped
        Tablespace will be recreated
    Compare table source(DB35298.S60A0100) and
    target(DB35298.S60A0100)
Source and/or target tablespaces use table-controlled
          partitioning DB35298.S60A0100 will be dropped
Comparison results may not reflect actual object differences
      Tables have identical column lists
      (D)Number of partitions reduced by 1 partition(s)
Table DB35298.S60A0100 will be dropped by dropping the
         tablespace
      Table will be recreated

    ****************************************************************
Drop/Create is created instead of "smart" alter when partition
added to the table (table based partitioning). Note: "smart"
alter will be created only if the target is a catalog and pqty,
seqty and storname in the "added" partitions are defaults.

Problem conclusion

  • The problem is fixed in DB2 Object Compare V7.2 and V7.1
