Problem summary

    * USERS AFFECTED: IMS Database Recovery Facility Version 3 *
    *                 Release 1 users.                             *
    ****************************************************************
    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When users generate image copy output *
    * with DRF they are required to provide *
    * the SPACE and VOLSER keywords in the *
    * SYSIN. Users expressed a desire to *
    * have these requirements removed. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF *
    ****************************************************************
DRF required the user to provide the VOLSER and SPACE keywords
in their recovery job SYSIN. This requirement was initially
used to prevent potential failures and abends from HPIC. Some
users use a tape library management system and identified that
the manual control of VOLSER and SPACE in the DRF environment is
    uneccessary.

Problem conclusion

  • DRF is changed to remove the requirement that the user needs to
provide the VOLSER, and SPACE parameters for image copy
    generation.

    ----
The following doc changes are required:
IMS Database Recovery Facility for z/OS, V3R1, User's Guide
    (SC18-9407-00)
Chapter 5. Starting the IMS Database Recovery Facility

    Change the following paragraph:
SPACE= allowed as is and is passed from IMS Database Recovery
Facility master to all IMS Database Recovery Facility
subordinate address spaces that all HPIC; therefore, it
should accommodate all output IC data sets. This is a
       required parameter.

    Change it to:
SPACE= allowed as is and is passed from IMS Database Recovery
Facility master to all IMS Database Recovery Facility
subordinate address spaces for HPIC; therefore, it should
accommodate all output IC data sets. SPACE is ignored if
writing out to tape. This parameter is optional.

    Change the following paragraph:
UNIT, UNIT2, VOLCNT, VOLSER, VOLSER2= allowed as-is and are
passed to the IMS Database Recovery Facility subordinate
address spaces for communication to HPIC by way of that API.
Because dynamic allocation is used, IMS Database Recovery
Facility must ensure that these are set and that they are set
       up correctly.
If you are creating a primary output image copy data set,
UNIT is the required parameter. You can also specify a value
for VOLSER. If a VOLSER value is not provided, then a
scratch volume is used. If you are creating a secondary
output image copy data set, UNIT2 is the required parameter.
Again you can specify a value for VOLSER2. If a VOLSER2
value is not provided, then a scrach volume is used for the
secondary output image copy data set.

    Change it to:
UNIT, UNIT2, VOLCNT, VOLSER, VOLSER2= allowed as-is and are
passed to the IMS Database Recovery Facility subordinate
address spaces for communication to HPIC by way of that API.
Because dynamic allocation is used, you should ensure that
       these are set up correctly.
UNIT and UNIT2 are required parameters to identify the
unit types you'll be using for your primary and/or secondary
       output image copy data sets.
VOLSER and VOLSER2 can be specified to provide a list of
volumes for your primary and secondary output image copy
data sets. If these parameters are not provided then
a local scratch volume is used.

    ----
Chapter 7. Messages and Codes of IMS Database Recovery Facility

Add a new message code for the following messages:
FRD4284E DATA SET RESTORE I/O ERROR, dbd ddn: reason
        ...
        INVALID VOLUME FOR OUTPUT IC
One or more of the tape volumes you provided with either
the VOLSER or VOLSER2 parameters cannot be used. This
can be because your input image copy already resides on
          this tape volume.

FRD6124A INVALID DATA ENCOUNTERED. KEYWORD: keyword RSN=rsn
        ...
VOLSER IS REJECTED FROM IC KEYWORD
If you are generating STACK image copies and specified
VOLSER or VOLSER2 on the individual ADD statements with
the IC() keyword, then you need to move them to the
UTILGBL statement. Specifying VOLSER and VOLSER2 on the
UTILGBL statement ensures that the image copy stack will
be generated with a consistent tape volume list.
    --
Change the following message code for the following message:
FRD6124A INVALID DATA ENCOUNTERED. KEYWORD: keyword RSN=rsn
        ...
VALUE OF SPACE OR UNIT IS MISSING WHILE IC KEYWORD SPECIFIED
SPACE and UNIT are required parameters if you have
          specified the IC keyword.

    Change it to:
UNIT IS NEEDED IF IC KEYWORD IS SPECIFIED
If you specified the IC keyword to generate an output
image copy with DRF, UNIT is a required parameter.
