Error description

  • When conducting a test of parallel task scheduling at our
    clients
     requests using the following parameters,
     - READNUM(4,4)
     - TAPECHK(Y)
     - CATDS(Y)
     - SORTPARM(NUM(4),ASPREF(DRFS),FILSZ(000020000), -
         DYNALLOC(3390,1))
     - PTF level is PK18015.
    .
      <DRF Activity:>

Available Tape devices were 4 (8E0,8E1,8E2,8E3)
     Recovery AREAs were 4.

But a message 'IEF238D DEVICE NAME OR CANCEL' was issued in

    * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF *
    ****************************************************************
When using the TAPECHK option, DRF is expected to recognize the
number of available tape devices as specified by the user with
the READNUM option. DRF is expected to wait for the next
available tape device before attempting to mount another tape in
parallel to other running processes. However, there are cases
where image copy tapes are allocated to a device before log and
change accumulation tapes had a chance to be unallocated from
    their devices.

Problem conclusion

  • AIDS: RIDS/UTIL RIDS/DBS DBS/UTIL
      DEP: NONE
      GEN:

    *** END IMS KEYWORDS ***
Allocation logic for log and change accumulation data sets is
change to keep a count of the number of tape devices allocated
for log and CA read. This count will help prevent the
subordinate address spaces from exceeding the number of
available tape devices supplied on READNUM during image copy
    allocation.
