PK25276: RECOVERING A HALDB PARTITION GET MESSAGE FRD4214I RECORD PIPE FAILURE DETECTED: WRITE, RC=C

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• LPAR to recover a production HALDB partition. When I submitted
  the recovery job with VERIFY on the START command, everything
  looked fine, so I resubmitted the job without VERIFY. DRF then
  returned the following message and quit:
   FRD4214I RECORD PIPE FAILURE DETECTED:  WRITE, RC=C
  
  Additional symptoms
  ABENDU0385-0000000B during area recovery
  If CA is run before the DRF recovery of the area the ABEND
  does not happen.
  

Local fix

Problem summary

  * RECOMMENDATION: INSTALL CORRECTIVE SERVICE FOR APAR/PTF      *

  When DRF reads change accumulation records into buffers,
  sometimes these records would need to span a buffer.  When this
  spanning occurs, DRF failed to update the header in the second
  buffer with information identifying which database data set it
  applies to.  This will lead the remaining DRF process to
  treat this buffer as invalid.
  

Problem conclusion

• DRF is changed to update the header information in a new CA
  buffer with the database name and DSID in cases where a span
  record is the first record in the buffer.
