PK24236: SM SPACE MANAGER ESTIMATES TOO LOW FOR COMPRESSED TABLESPACES

APAR status

Error description

• In DB2 Administration Tool using SM Space Manager function on
  compressed tablespaces can lead to space estimates that are
  too low.
  .
  Using SM primary command in Admin main panel, adb2, followed by
  option 2 in panel adb2m will lead to panel adb2mes.
  In panel adb2mes the Admin Tool pre-populates values which,
  in the case of compressed tablespaces, result in a space
  estimate that is too low.
  .
  Problem is caused by average row length field in panel adb2mes
  being populated with compressed row length, not the average row
  length of uncompressed rows.
  

Local fix

• Calculate average row length of uncompressed rows by dividing
  the pre-populated avg row length by the compression value.
  .
  Replace the average row length by the calculated uncompressed
  row length.
  .
  Always use uncompressed row length when applying compression
  factor to ensure accurate space estimation.
