Error description

  • IMS DEDB Fast Recovery enhancement to support IMS V7 APAR
    PQ67575 (PTF is UQ74156), IMS V8 APAR PQ70573 (PTF is UQ74370)
    and IMS V9.
This APAR corrects an incompatibility situation with IMS managed
DUPLEXED SVSO structures. MSGDFS2830I is generated when this
situation arises. The incompatibility state exists when an entry
in structure 1 is marked UNCHANGED and the entry in structure 2
is marked CHANGED. A reclaim operation can remove the entry from
structure 1. PQ57691 addressed this problem by issuing a CASTOUT
request for the entry in structure 2.
This process gets the CASTOUT LOCK, reads the data entry and
then releases the CASTOUT LOCK. The next request for that data
will put the 2 structures back into SYNC.
It could happen that the request for the CASTOUT LOCK could fail
due to a CASTOUT operation running in a data sharer or multiple
    concurrent demand load operations executing.
The failure reason indicates that the CASTOUT LOCK is already
held. This is a situation that can be tolerated.

-PK19222 for IMS DEDB Fast Recovery
During CASTOUT operation, there are some inconsistency situation
found on entries having the same CI RBA between the dual
structures. When DFR processes CASTOUT for dual structures, it
performs CASTOUT read from the structure 2 (STR2) at first and
    then from structure 1 (STR1).
Inconsistency case 1: An entry in STR2 is marked changed and
the entry in STR1 is marked unchanged. This inconsistency will
occur if IMS update for an CI to STR2 was completed but the
update to STR1 for the same CI was delayed and has not been
    completed yet.
Inconsistency case 2: STR2 has a data entry marked as changed
but STR1 has not the entry. This situation was addressed
by IMS APAR PQ57691 and will occur by a timing problem between
IMS write I/O to the CF and CASTOUT processing.
For both cases, DFR will update DASD with CI from STR2.

Comments

  • The following modules have been modified.
    (x = 7, 8 and 9)
    *
DFRXCASx - Modify code to update DASD if CASTOUT read from STR2
is successful while CASTOUT read from STR1 gets
               unchanged or no entry.
DFRXULKx - Modify code to issue unlock CASTOUT for both STRs
even if there is an unlock error for either one.
