Error description

  • Online Area Extender enhancement to simplify usage (Phase 2).
FPO V2R1(5666-F78) has provided APAR PQ90898 as Phase 1 of this
    enhancement.
This phase (2) eliminates the need for the following OAE
    preperation steps:
    1) Allocate a larger data set.
    2) Create a new ADS with a different DDN and define the data set
    created to DBRC.

This APAR is also part of FITS requirement MR0220036842
    (Phase 2).

    * RECOMMENDATION: Apply the maintenance for this APAR. *
    ****************************************************************
Before this APAR, you needed to take complicated preparatory
steps, as follows, which takes a considerable amount of time
    before running the OAE utility.
    1. Allocate a larger area data set.
    2. Register a new area data set to DBRC.
    3. Change the ROOT= parameter of the AREA statement on the DBD.
    4. Generate the new DBD member in ACBLIB library.
       (DBDGEN and ACBGEN)
    5. Run the OAE utility.

Comments

  • With this APAR, OAE provides the extension of the original ADS
    with a single JOB step.

APAR PQ90898 has removed Steps 3 and 4 that were needed to
install the new control keyword ROOT=. Now, OAE extends IOVF
and/or SDEP with the ROOT= parameter instead of the ACBLIB
    library.
And now, this APAR PK16267 removes Steps 1 and 2 that were
needed to install a new FPXIN DD statement.
Therefore, you only need to run one job step. This is a sample
JCL that can be used to expand DB DEDBJN21, AREA DB21AR1.

    /*
You only need to provide the temporary ADS information for OAE
to define or delete, and register or unregister it with DBRC
dynamically. OAE calculates the extended ADS size by using the
    user specified keywords.
When a new DD statement FPXIN is specified, do not specify
    SYSIN DD.
"High Performance Fast Online Tool for z/OS User's Guide
    Version 2 Release 2 SC18-9239-01 (SC18923901)" is updated to
describe the support for a single step JCL that is used to
extend IOVF and/or SDEP of the original ADS without any
    preparatory steps.
For detasils, see "Chapter 9. Using Online Area Extender, Online
    area FPXIN statements".
