Error description

  • In DB2 Administration Tool an sqlcode846 results from using
the default cache value of zero from panel adb26cq during a
CREATE SEQUENCE operation.

Error messages appear similar to the following:
DSNT408I SQLCODE = -846, ERROR:  INVALID SPECIFICATION OF
   IDENTITY COLUMN OR SEQUENCE OBJECT ... REASON CODE = 4
.

Local fix

  • Enter a valid cache value in panel adb26cq:
a positive integer 2 or greater. DB2 default is 20.

Problem conclusion

  • Panel ADB26CQ "DSN8 Create Sequence" had an invalid default
value (zero) for CACHE. It should be changed to "NO CACHE"
as a default. The problem has been fixed.
