PK03517: ABENDB37 OCCURS DURING SORTOUT WHEN TRYING TO SORT THE OUTPUT OFTHE FABADA1 DDNAME DAR3CS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• ABENDx37 occurs during SORTOUT when trying to sort the output
  of the FABADA1 DDNAME DAR3CS.
  

Local fix

• Make the SORTIN (SORT3CS) a permanent dataset and remove the
  first LENGTH parm as shown here:
    SORT FIELDS=(5,13,CH,A),SIZE=03010770
    RECORD TYPE=V,LENGTH=(,,,,030,030)
  In this case it caused the SORTOUT to be allocated the same as
  the customers SORTIN, to alleviate the abend.

  When users try to SORT the output of the FABADA1 DDNAME DAR3CSO,
  SYNCSORT decides the LRECL size from LENGTH first parameter in
  SYSIN DD in case of DCB is not specified in the JCL.
  Because the LENGTH first parameter shows 28687 bytes and it is
  larger than LRECL of DAR3CSO, the LRECL of SORTOUT decided by
  SYNCSORT exceeds LRECL of SORTIN (DAR3CSO), and SORT process may
  get ABEND B37.
  
  DFSORT ignores the LENGTH first parameter, then DFSORT users
  would have nothing to do with this problem.
  

Problem conclusion

• The module FABADA1 is modified so that first LENGTH parameter of
  FABADA1 SORT3CS DD is omitted.
