PJ43738: CHANGE BY MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER V11 REGARDING USER AGENT STRING CAUSES SOME MINOR ISSUES WITH CASE BUILDER

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • The value of the User Agent String in Microsoft Internet
    Explorer 11 (IE11) differs from earlier versions.
    In IE10 and earlier versions, the User Agent String contains the
    substring "MSIE".  But in IE11, this "MSIE" substring has been
    removed.   Because of this change, Case Manager Builder is
    unable to detect the browser version when a user is running in
    IE11.
    
    The change can be seen by comparing the User Agent String values
    from IE11 and IE10 as shown here:
    
    IE version 11:
    UA: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/7.0; rv:11.0)
    
    IE version 10:
    UA: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.0; Windows NT 6.1;
    WOW64;Trident/6.0)
    
    The reported symptoms resulting from this issue include the
    following:
    
    1. After deleting all the existing custom parameters for a rule,
    the custom parameter dialog might close automatically.
    
    2. After deleting all the existing workgroups in a task workflow
    by using Step Designer, the workgroup dialog might close
    automatically.
    
    3. After deleting all the existing attachments in a task
    workflow by using Step Designer, the attachment dialog might
    close automatically.
    
    4. After deleting existing workgroups or existing attachments in
    a task workflow, the step properties are not seen when
    double-clicking the step.
    
    5. While testing the solution by using the solution test link
    from the Manage Solutions page, an errant tool bar appears in
    Case Manager Client.
    
    6. Clicking the logout button from Case Manager Builder might
    not log out the user as expected.
    

Local fix

  • The user can run Case Builder in an older version of Internet
    Explorer, IE11 in compatibility mode, or a different browser
    type
    (i.e. Firebox or Chrome) altogether.

Problem conclusion

  • This issue is resolved in 5.2.1.3-ICM-FP003 GA Patch.  The code
    has been modified to work with the changes in the string.
