  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Some products, like CICS, allow multiple Liberty servers to
    be started in the same address space. When there are
    multiple Liberty servers in the address space, and they are
    configured to write the Liberty message log to a DD, only
    the default MSGLOG DD can be used. This means that all of
    the message logs are written to the same DD. It is
    impossible to determine which Liberty servers wrote which
    messages to the DD. The DD name should be configurable to
    allow the messages to be separated into different DDs.

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Unable to use a DD card other than *
    * MSGLOG DD to store the messages *
    * generated by the server. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    When a MSGLOG DD is not available, other available DD cards
    cannot be used to store the
    messages generated by the Liberty server.

Problem conclusion

  • A new configuration attribute with the name of messageLogDD was
    added to the zosLogging configuration element. The new
    attribute allows users to specify the name of the DD card to use
    to route message to. If the length of the attribute value is
    greater than 8 or not specified, the default DD name of MSGLOG
    is used.

    Example configuration:

    <zosLogging messageLogDD="CUSTLOG"/>
