APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Code in DFHWBCL should close the web session used for the INVOKE
SERVICE and then issue a CHANGE_MODE off the S8 and back to the
callers TCB. That CHANGE_MODE call should specify
DISASSOCIATE_TCB(YES) to cause the S8 to go back into the TCB
pool. However, that parameter is not being set correctly. This
causes the S8 to remain associated to the task for its lifetime.

Local fix

  • Increase SIT parm MAXSSLTCBS

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Long running tasks which use use web *
    * services do not free S8 TCBs when they *
    * have finished with them but instead *
    * keep them until the task terminates. *
    ****************************************************************
Long running tasks which use web services do not free an S8 TCB
when they change back to the original TCB.
It can be seen in CICS trace that the CHANGE_MODE call to
change back from the S8 TCB to the original TCB does not specify
DISASSOCIATE_TCB. The S8 TCB remains associated with the task
and is not available to the SSL pool until the task terminates.
This may cause CICS to run out of S8 TCBs in the SSL pool.

In this case, when another task requires an S8 TCB from the SSL
pool but none are available, the task is suspended for resource
type 'DISPATCH' and resource name 'SSL_POOL' until an S8 TCB
become available in the SSL pool.

Problem conclusion

  • DFHWBCM has been modified to specify DISASSOCIATE_TCB when the
S8 TCB changes back to the original TCB.
