    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: No default MAXLOGS RC/MAXLGRC is set if *
    *                      the MAXIMUM LOGS=/MAXLOGS= parameters   *
    * are used but MAXLOGS RC/MAXLGRC are *
    *                      omitted.                                *
    *                      Un-predictable errors or AbEnds can     *
    * occur if the //SYSPRINT DD is omitted. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF for APAR PI92558. *
    ****************************************************************
    HPCABAT0 does not ensure a MAXLOG RC value. This leads to the
    job finishing with RC=0 and no HPC1310I message is issued even
    though the MAXIMUM LOGS threshold is met.
    HPCSBAT0 omits the syntax and use/meaning of MAXLGRC and this is
    not intuitive.
    When SYSPRINT DD is omitted HPCABAT0 dynamically allocates the
    SYSPRINT dataset. The allocation parameters used in the SVC 99
    specify and incorrect block size. The HPCABATO establishes the
    DCBEODA & DCBSYNA in the DSB based on register 4 which points to
    the DSB at the time it is built. HPCALST0 later opens SYSPRINT
    for input and accesses the DSB with register 7. EOD or I/O
    error conditions result in un-predictable AbEnds.

Comments

  • HPCABAT0 is changed to check for parameter MAXLOG
    RC=nn/MAXLGRC=nn if parameter MAXIMUM LOGS=nnn/MAXLOGS=nnn is
    specified. If MAXIMUM LOGS=nnn/MAXLOGS=nnn is specified but
    MAXLOG RC=nn/MAXLGRC=nn is omitted, then default return code
    value 1 is set for MAXLOG RC=nn/MAXLGRC=nn.

    HPCSBAT0 in SHPCSAMP is updated to show the syntax and meaning
    of the MAXLGRC parameter.

    HPCAMAIN is changed to output the correct RC with the
    MAXLOGS/MAXLOG RC conditions are met.

    HPCABAT0 is changed to allocate SYSPRINT with an appropriate
    block size.

    HPCALST0 is changed to reference the SYSPRINT DSB with the
    correct register.
