Error description
Log startup message for low 64-bit MEMLIMIT
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of the Apache-based IBM HTTP Server * * on z/OS * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Provide a warning if the environments * * MEMLIMIT is set too low, and improve * * recovery in situations where the limit * * is exceeded. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Prior to z/OS v1R10, 64-bit memory was not available by default. In V1R10, the default was changed to 2GB. 2GB is more than enough for most IHS configurations, but historical guidance suggested increasing the limit to as little as 512MB which is insufficient for many configurations.
Problem conclusion
Several changes are being made as part of this APAR: - A startup message warns if MEMLIMIT appears too low relative to ThreadsPerChild - Recovery in the case of exhausted MEMLIMIT was improved in a specific scenario where the message "Failed to create transaction pool." is issued/ - The manual and sample procs are being updated to clarify the modern z/OS defaults, suggest higher example values, and a new recommended calculation and limit. The fix for this APAR will be included in 9.0.0.8 and 8.5.5.14
