APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Sporadic classloader issues can occur due to the difference in
the order in which classes are loaded from an application's
WEB-INF/lib directory. This APAR will provide an ability to
specify the order via custom property (details TBD).

    * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application *
    * Server who have an application which *
    * depends on the class path order of JARs *
    *                  under WEB-INF/lib.                          *

    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The order in which WEB-INF/lib JARs *
    * is operating system dependent *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
Java EE does not define the order in which JAR files under the
WEB-INF/lib appear in the class path. The class path order
depends on the operating system on which the application
is running. Therefore, it is a best practice for your
application to have no dependency on a specific order.
WebSphere Application Server Traditional loads the JARs in the
order they are retrieved from the file system. The order is
dependent on the operating system and possibly operating
    system configuration.

Problem conclusion

  • See more complete information for this new capability at the
    following link: http://ibm.biz/BdzVPn

WebSphere Application Server Traditional now provides a
mechanism for you to specify the order in which JAR files under
WEB-INF/lib appear in the class path.

Explicit ordering of WEB-INF/lib JARs in the class path is
obtained by providing a list of JAR files to be inserted at
the beginning of the class path or by specifying the complete
list of JAR files. Elements in the list must be
comma-separated. Provide the list at the server,
    application, or module level.

    ----

    Server level

Set the following JVM custom property.

    Property name:
    org.eclipse.jst.j2ee.commonarchivecore.ibm_webinflib_order

    Example value: First.jar, Second.jar, Third.jar

    ----

    Application or module level

Add the following attribute to the MANIFEST.MF of the
    application or the web module:

    Attribute name: IBM_WEBINFLIB_ORDER

    Example value: First.jar, Second.jar, Third.jar

    For example:

    IBM_WEBINFLIB_ORDER: First.jar, Second.jar, Third.jar

The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in
fix pack 8.5.5.14 and 9.0.0.7. Please refer to the Recommended
