PI90185: DB2 OBJECT COMPARISON TOOL - ISSUES WITH SYNONYNS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The SYNONYM related to a table is regenerated when a table is
  regenerated, but a SYNONYM related to a view is not regenerated
  even if the view is regenerated. Furthermore, COMPARISON COUNTS
  REPORT is not correct for number of SYNONYMs at source/target.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: 1- When views are dropped/recreated     *
  *                       and view synonym is specified on       *
  *                       the target exclude specification and   *
  *                       exists only on target, view synonym    *
  *                       is implicitly dropped but not          *
  *                       recreated after view is recreated.     *
  *                       Also, view synonym change statements   *
  *                       are missing in changes file.           *
  *                                                              *
  *                       2- Object 'Compare Summary' and        *
  *                       'Count Report' of Synonyms aren't      *
  *                       correct.                               *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *

  Comparing views with synonyms and specify exclude
  specification for view synonyms which are on target only,
  results in:
  
  -  View synonym is implicitly dropped because view is
     dropped/recreated. View synonym should have been
     recreated since user specified YES for option
     'Allow implicit drop of excluded objects ' on panel
     GOC5 - 'Generate Compare Jobs'.
  
  -  missing of view synonym change statement in changes
     file.
  
  Object Compare 'Summary Report' Result column and
  'Count Report' of Synonyms are not correct.
  

Problem conclusion

• Problems have been resolved.
  
  Implicitly dropped and recreated synonyms which are on
  target only and excluded are now reported in Object
  Comparison 'Summary Report' Result column as
  'Excluded/recreated' and in Object Comparison 'Count
  Report' either as 'Dropped/Recreated' or as 'Kept'
  depending on the setting of the keep target option.
